AMP ALS: United in the Fight Against ALS
ALS United, along with its dedicated members, has taken a significant step in the battle against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) by collectively supporting the Accelerating Medicines Partnership (AMP) ALS initiative. This groundbreaking project aims to expedite the development of effective treatments for ALS, providing hope and progress for those affected by this relentless disease. Managed by the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH), AMP ALS brings together the resources and expertise of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Food and Drug Administration, Critical Path Institute, and other stakeholders from academia, life science companies, foundations, and patient-focused groups.
Collective Support for a Common Goal
ALS United members have pledged $100,000 annually over five years to support AMP ALS. This commitment enables ALS United to actively participate in the steering committee, ensuring that the voices of people living with ALS are central to the initiative, fostering a collaborative approach to advancing research and therapeutic development.
Driving Research and Innovation
The AMP ALS initiative is designed to address the critical challenges faced in ALS research, including disease heterogeneity, segmented research efforts, and the need for standardized tools. By establishing a central ALS Knowledge Platform and validating biomarkers, AMP ALS aims to improve clinical outcome assessments and discover new therapeutic targets. The initiative’s comprehensive approach promises to accelerate the development of life-saving therapies and improve patient outcomes.
